Josh Hutcherson of The Hunger Games will soon be presented with GLAAD’s Vanguard Award, an honor for media professionals who increase understanding and visibility of the LGBT community through their work. At age 19, he’ll be the youngest person ever to get the award.

Hutcherson played the son of two lesbian moms in the film The Kids Are All Right and he co-founded the Straight But Not Narrow (SNBB) campaign, appearing in one of the first PSAs for the group.

“We just launched [SBNN], and it’s a very exciting time for us and it hits close to home for me,” Hutcherson said in an earlier interview with “I have a lot of gay friends in Los Angeles. My roommate’s gay and I lost two uncles when I was young to AIDS, so it’s an important cause in my family.”

The ceremony for the GLAAD Media Awards is taking place this Saturday. Way to go, Josh! Hopefully more young advocates will follow in his footsteps.

Wow, this is terrific! My respect for him has greatly deepened!

Alphabet Soup Zine is still taking submissions!  I’ve decided to extend the deadline until Friday to give everyone a little extra time to submit since I know people have busy lives like I do.

And please feel free to submit anything (poetry, fiction, mini-play or screenplay, artwork, book or movie reviews, essays, recipes, an explanation on why you like a certain lgbtq character, who inspires you) as long as it relates to either lgbtq people or life in some way!

All these events have an ulterior motive: to show that gay people are people

“I’ve never been around so many well-informed, articulate, passionate young people. They want to improve the world, and that’s very inspiring. I’m proud every day to be a part of that.” -Daniel Radcliffe

I knew there was a reason that I always like Daniel Radcliffe!
